I was born in the Northwest, but even growing up I dreamed of the East Coast. I always knew I wanted to be a part of a strong intellectual community--I know, nerdy, right?--and I slowly made my way to Boston.
I went to college in Colorado, where I discovered the glory of the outdoors and the intense satisfaction that comes from working with passionate educators and students.
I moved to Boston in 2009 to start a Ph.D. in History at Boston College. Although I was convinced that I wanted to join the academy and become a rock star professor, life had other plans. I found myself increasingly drawn away from my academic work and toward helping make graduate student's lives better--both during and after their programs. The life of a graduate student is harder than anyone wants to talk about, partly because it feels privileged (and it is). But the experiences that I've had and the wonderful people that I've met led me into career development and away from traditional academe.
My mission in life is to help lead people into a life that has meaning and fulfillment. I understand how frustrating it is to feel ready for something great but unsure of where to start. My approach is holistic because I believe that unless you embrace both work and life, with a strong understanding of how you present yourself to the world, you will always feel like something is missing.
In my free time, I group text about the Bachelor, watch Supernatural, and read everything I can get my hands on. You can follow me on Instagram @doctor_fosser for a digest of daily career tips and occasional pictures of cheese.
